Stick lac or crude lac, consists of the resin, the encrusted insects, lac dye, and twigs.
The source is Indonesia.
It is used to make shellac.
This dye stuff give very beautiful reds, pinks, and purples depending on the mordant used and water ph. Colors are similar to cochineal.

Mordants used in yarn samples in picture are from left to right: alum, tin, iron.
There should be enough to dye one half pound of dry fiber.
