Madder Root Natural Dye, Rubia tinctorium, Ground
Madder is a perennial plant that can be grown in a wide variety of climates including most of North America.
Madder has historically been used to obtain orange and reds, depending on the mordant ( dye assist used to make dyes color fast) used. The color obtained will vary depending on water ph , water temperature, and mordant.
The mordants used in the yarn samples are from left to right alum, tin, iron.
