Fustic Chips, Chlorophora tinctoria, or Maclura tinctoria, Natural Dye
This natural dye is from the heartwood of a tropical tree native to the Americas, that is related to the mulberry tree.
It yields is a very vibrant yellow dye, which has been used throughout history for textile dyeing.
A little goes a long way.
We were able to dye the 3- 2 oz. skeins with just a few tablespoons of the shavings, with plenty left over.
The color yield will vary depending on water ph , water temperature, and mordant.
Mordants used in yarn samples are from left to right alum, tin, chrome. ( we do not offer chrome for sale because of it's toxic qualities).
Refer to a natural dye book for more detailed instructions.
Mordants and other natural dyes are available on our web store.
If sent to a Pennsylvania address, Pennsylvania State Sales Tax applies.
