The Quebracho tree grows only in the jungles along the banks of the Paraguay River.
This Quebracho Yellow extract is processed from the common Quebracho. Its wood is quite heavy and extremely hard. The name is derived from the Spanish quebrar, meaning " to break," and hacha, meaning "an axe." The tree is slow growing, so the dye material is selectively harvested from tree farms.
Quebracho also has a long history as use as a tanning agent .
